About

I am an ocean scientist and sustainability advocate with a career spanning academia, NGO, and purpose-driven business. My expertise lies in addressing complex environmental challenges by connecting science to action.

At Ocean Wise’s Plastics Lab, I directed a research program that shaped policies, enhanced public awareness, and catalyzed ocean-positive innovation. In collaboration with partners across sectors, I worked on solutions for microplastics, including sustainable textile design, improved industry practices, microfibre capture technologies, wastewater treatment innovations, and forensic tools to detect plastics in the environment. Later, as Chief Scientist at Ocean Diagnostics, I founded a cutting-edge microplastics laboratory, advanced new detection technologies, and co-created Canada’s national blueprint for tackling microfibre pollution.

My unique background as a cross-disciplinary scientist and strategic leader enables me to integrate diverse fields to develop impactful solutions. Passionate about driving transformative change, I support governments, NGOs, businesses, startups, and philanthropic foundations to advance sustainability initiatives and creating a lasting impact for ocean health. I regularly contribute my expertise on plastic pollution to the development of Canadian policy and related initiatives.

I hold a PhD in Oceanography from the University of British Columbia and an MSc in Applied Marine Sciences from Plymouth University, UK, and serve as Strategic Advisor at Ocean Diagnostics.

Protecting our oceans starts with the choices we make on land. By rethinking how consumers, businesses, and governments interact with materials and waste, we can tackle pollution at its source. Together, we can embrace sustainable solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
